|Greetings | Contest | Competition |Entry form | Mosonmagyaróvár | Nominations/Results | Sponsors|
I would like to welcome all sportsmen and fans to Mosonmagyaróvár on the occasion of the WPC European Championship held first time in Hungary. Thanks to the Botond SE (Hungarian Powerlifting Congress), host of the event, this sport already has great tradition in our town.
The members of our region’s well-known sport club achieved outstanding results on European and world championships in the last years. We are grateful to these people for making a name for the town just like for themselves through their skills, persistence and honourable achievements. Their calling was also necessary to the maintaining of their club, the stiff trainings as well as the organisation of this championship to be held in Mosonmagyaróvár from 9th to13th June 2010.
We are proud that we can be the home of this significant event according to our sportsmen intent. It makes our town better known, along with its more than 2000 years of history dating back to the Roman times. One can meet the name of Mosonmagyaróvár on modern maps in the most dynamic developing Western part of Hungary, in a both economically and commercially advantageous region, that is also called as the ’Golden triangle’ because of the immediate vicinity of the Austrian and Slovakian borders.
One of the main attractions of our cosy town of 30.000 inhabitants is the water. The spa fed by the thermal water cures many people, and the rivers await the lovers of water sports and tours. The winding branches of the River Lajta, the small bridges and typical streets promise nice strolls for those wishing to relax. Visitors coming to Mosonmagyaróvár should also see Szigetköz, a region that is full of fabulous nature treasures. Mosonmagyaróvár and its surroundings together offer an unforgettable experience.
We live here and wait you with great hospitality in our town.
Mayor of Mosonmagyaróvár
Dear Competitors and Friends,
Welcome to the website of the 2010 WPC European Championships. My name is Sándor Freimann, I'm the President of the Hungarian Pro Powerlifting League. Our organization was formed in March 2009 with some of the best, widely respected competitors and clubs of the country. Among our founding members are former IPF World and European Champions, László Mészáros, Szabolcs Ónozó, László Kupcsik, István Árvai, Béla Kathi and many times winner of Strongest Man Central Europe Contests, Ádám Darázs.
Our goal is to popularize our sport, to make it widely practiced (RAW and beginners' competitions) as well as supporting our top competitors, and to create a strong media presence for powerlifting.
As early as last year we had highly attended National Championships and Raw Meets. We organized the first competitions by WPO rules, and on top of it, it was part of one of the biggest fitness events of the country.
We are inviting the best powerlifting and bench press competitors of Europe between 9 and 13 June, 2010 to Mosonmagyaróvár, Hungary. We are sure these well-organized and high level championships will be an experience to remember for all who attend.
The venue is the Center of Education of the town. The organizers of this meet pride themselves of having organized the 2005 IPF European Benchpress Championships which, according to IFP executives, was one of the best competitions of IPF history.
The competion will be broadcast by Sport TV Hungary.
Acknowledging the trust of WPC, we have chosen an easy-to-access venue (Vienna, Austria Airport is 70 km, Bratislava, Slovakia Airport is 30 km, Budapest Hungary Airport is 170 km away.) Transfers between airports and our town are provided, accomodations are in the best hotels which we will organize for you. We will provide a taxi service for 2 euros within the town boundaries. The biggest and best restaurant will serve hot meals at the meet venue.
Mosonmagyaróvár is famous for its quality hospitality due to the proximity of three borders and several landmark sights you can see (castle, university, rivers, museums). One can have lunch or dinner for as low as 2 to 8 euros at several places.
Special lights and hi-fi music will ensure an extra to the flavor of a good competition.
The closing banquet will be in the best place in town, in Bacardi Beach, where we will be waiting all attendees with smorgasbord, playful competitions and naturally some disco.
We hope many of you will come to Hungary and have a great time in Mosonmagyaróvár, and return to your home full of memorable experiences.
We welcome everyone. Wishing a good training for all lifters!
May the force be with you!
